Hey its Viv and I’m back for another chat. I’ve been a bit busy over the last week or so, so it’s been a while since the last time I got a post up. You know how it goes, another week goes by in the blink of an eye and you’re wondering where it went. I’d been doing trips backwards and forwards to my mother’s house as she hasn’t been well. I’ve been getting her shopping, cooking her food, there’s been trips to the hospital and all this whilst trying to fit in a job and some me time. Well things have thankfully calmed down a bit now. She’s back on her feet and feeling much, much, better so I’m back to just looking after myself.
I’ve been a bit more stressed than I probably should have as it’s my friend’s birthday coming up in around a weeks-time and I wanted to get her something special being her big 4- 0. She’s currently away on holiday and gets back two days before her birthday as she wanted to celebrate it with all her friends. She runs a beauty salon but she’s closed until after her birthday which gives me the perfect opportunity to sort out her present.
Salon Reception Desk
She’s been complaining about the reception desk in her beauty salon for god knows how long as it’s made of tatty old wood and the paint job is undesirable to say the least. It doesn’t look that terrible don’t get me wrong, but compared to the rest of the shop, it could really do with sprucing up. Well, it just needs to come out and be replaced with a new one. So as you may have guessed by now, this is where I come in. I want to get her a really nice reception desk that has that bit of Wow! factor when the guests walk in. Obviously the best way to do this would be to spend a boat load of money on a really fancy one but I don’t have a load of money so that’s out of the question. That didn’t stop me dreaming for a little while and I find some amazing salon designs at REM. If this was some kind of TV program and they were paying to get her Salon completely kitted out free of charge, then this is the kind of thing I’d ask them for. Instead, I’ve had to switch to plan B. So plan B is basically the complete opposite of plan A. Instead of buying her a brand new top of the range reception desk, instead, I’m going to get her a second-hand used reception desk and use my artistic skills to transform it into a work of art.
Times running out
I know my friends tastes really well, I understand the theme she’s gone for in her salon and we’ve had many a girly chat about how she’d want the salon to look if she had the time or money to change it. Now I can’t go messing with the whole salon and in my honest opinion, it really does look great, it’s really only that garish desk that needs ripping out. Now I’ve got rid of my mother’s chores, the last couple of days have been setting about finding a unit that I can work with and that with a bit of TLC, can be transformed it to something really cool. I know she’s very keen on having one with a rounded front, a curved style rather than square. I’ve therefore made that the first necessity when searching for the right one.
Thankfully, after two long days of running around from shop to shop, followed by searching the internet high and low, I’ve finally come across the desk I’m looking for. I’ve found a reception desk for sale pretty much brand new in mint condition and is completely plain wood so perfect for me to add my own design to. The price is just about within my affordability at £300 pounds so I think this will be the one I buy. I’ll have a few more hours to make sure but then I’ll have to go for it. I think there’s an express delivery option so that will give me about two or three days, if I’m lucky, to get it painted and then get it delivered to her shop. Her sister has the key to the salon so she’s obviously in on it and is going to lend me a hand with the design and getting it swapped out with the old one. Super exciting times, can’t wait to see her face when she opens up the salon doors and sees it.
Hello lovelies, welcome back to my home and garden blog. Standing in the paint aisle staring at the endless sea of colors in front of you can becoming more tiring each and every trip. You will flip flop between so many colors and shades that the store will start charging you for sample sheets, and you still might not have picked up the best choice. When you get home with buckets in hand you might realize that your new paint color doesn’t truly reflect the tone of your room or that it throws out the rest of the mood you have worked so hard to culminate. But worry no longer, as I have compiled a list of some of my favorite gray paints. These paints have all been tested by my amazing self, and if that is not enough then you can leave. Read more

Hello everyone, welcome back to another exciting post on my home and garden blog. Me and my partner recently upsized our living conditions, and as such we have been looking for more ‘things’ to fill the house with. The first place that I thought needed filling up was our kitchen, up to this point we had only a toaster, blender and microwave. I wanted some more appliances and gadgets to fill the counters and help keep costs down, so I went over to my favourite website for used goods, http://www.used.forsale, and found some great deals on kitchen appliances and gadgets. Here are some of the ones I think will end up saving me money. Read more

Creative uses for a Kenwood K - Mix
Hi all and welcome back to my home and garden blog. I’ve recently redone my kitchen and one of the things I was really excited to buy a KitchenAid or a Kenwood K Mix. Seeing as we’d already spent a lot of money on the redesign and decoration of our new kitchen, we couldn’t afford to buy a brand new mixer, or the famed KitchenAid. Instead we had a look on my favourite second hand online classified ads website, www.forsale.co.za where I managed to scoop up the Kenwood K-Mix in Raspberry for an incredible price, and it came with some of the great attachments including the Spaghetti pasta cutter and the Flat Pasta Roller, although I have a feeling there’s still lots of attachments I would like to purchase! Hi folks, so Viv here again. So sorry for the lack of updates lately, but I’ve been madly gardening in the beautiful spring time, getting ready for summer. My sister and her two girls have recently moved into my neighbourhood and we have discovered that my garden is a mystical wonderland inhabited by many fairies, so we have created a little village of fairy cottages for them all to live. Thankfully there was a good supply of second-hand fairy cottages available online, so it has been a fun and cheap exercise. Read more
Welcome back folks. Today I wanted to share with you a big project I’m currently working on and the steps I need to complete before I achieve it. The main goal is to build a veggie garden and while I’d love to say that’s the essence of the project I’m currently working on, the truth is that for the moment I’m just laboring: cutting, clearing, weeding and pulling. The notion of planting and edging the garden seems a lifetime away at this stage. I cannot believe how rapidly, in just a short period of time, things can grow here in the tropics. I live up in the jungle next to the National Park so the variety of life here is wonderful. I’m literally surrounded by a million different shades of green. It feels like paradise, but along with it comes a lot of effort. Read more
Juicer and Juicing
Hey there folks. I’ve been feeling a bit run down of late which is why I have been a bit quiet here on the blog. I have been burning the candles at both ends and not maintaining the healthiest of diets if I am being honest. So I have vowed to make sure that I get a good seven to eight hours uninterrupted sleep a night from now on and take better care of myself. I’m going to also address my diet and get on a bit of a health kick. I’m going to do this by going on a juice diet for a week or so. That is right! I am going to officially be known as a juicer! I am going to use this blog post as an opportunity to delve a little deeper into the world of juicers for sale and the benefits that it offers. Is it for everyone? Is it even as healthy as everybody says? Let’s do a little research and find out. Read more
I know this is a bit of a move away from the norm but I have already spoken about my new interest in coffee and after having a play with my friends new bespoke coffee machine I thought I would discuss espresso coffee. Now this really does involve a scientific mind and an artist’s touch! I’m not saying I have quite mastered those two things but practice makes perfect! Anyway, what makes the perfect espresso and how do you achieve it? An espresso coffee is a strong, short shot of coffee with a well-balanced flavour. It is knowing how to create this balance that really does create the perfect espresso. Read more

Hi there. Welcome back to my Blog. Hope you are all well! Life is pretty hectic at the moment but I am having a really great time. I told you recently that I was helping my friend set up a new café. Well I have really immersed myself into the role – I don’t think my friend was expecting me to do so much but she has been really thankful for my help and loves all of my design ideas. I am actually thinking about taking this up as a regular thing. I have a lot of friends in the area who are always looking for interior designers to help with design ideas for their homes and businesses so I think I would be able to find a fair bit of work. Word of mouth is obviously really important so if my friend is happy with everything I do (which she definitely seems to be so far) then I know this will get passed onto other people. Anyway, let’s see what happens…don’t want to run before I can walk! Read more
