The car hire specialists are offering some great money-saving tips as price hikes are impending
24 August 2010 – With the Bank Holiday weekend almost here, many are dreading the price hikes in fuel that are coming with it and to make fuel costs more affordable, Carrentals.co.uk has released a list of handy tips to follow.
Speaking out about the new list of tips is Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk: “Prices are set to rise yet again in the UK and we want to help our customers to learn new ways that will help them to save money.”
He continued to say: “Just a few small changes here and there can go a long way so if you want to be able to afford more this year then check out our tips on how you can save money on fuel.”
Want to save money on fuel? Here are a few ways that you can do just that:
1) Take it Steady – Save on your petrol consumption by reducing your speed.
2) Pressure Point – Tyre pressures should always be set at the recommended levels and not more or less.
3) Plan Your Route – Don’t drive on really congested or busy roads and plan your journey properly to avoid the chances of getting lost.
4) Remove Excess Weight – Get rid of anything from the car that don’t need for that particular journey.
5) Tight-Wad’s Fifth Gear – Don’t put your car into neutral on downhill stretches as it actually uses more fuel nowadays as cars are so advanced.
6) Make Your Own Fuel – Make your own fuel to ensure that when the prices go too high at the pumps you can fill up at home.
7) Cut Down on Resistance – Get rid of the roof rack if you don’t really need it and do the windows up to cut back on the drag.
Supermarket Money Off Vouchers – Don’t throw away your fuel vouchers – Use them!9) Lift Share – Share lifts with friends, family and neighbours on things such as school runs, work journeys and shopping trips.
10) Keep Fuel Topped Up – If you find a station offering a good price then fill the tank right up!

Car Hire Prices up by 30% in 2010 Says Carrentals.co.uk

Countries outside of the Eurozone suffer badly as low vehicle availability affects car hire prices
4 August 2010 – The average price for a rental car is far steeper this August compared to last according to a study completed by Carrentals.co.uk.
The price of France car hire along with Spain has gone up significantly and the study also looked at UK, Croatia, Italy, Turkey, Portugal and Madeira, Greece, USA and Ireland. The figure came from a study that looked at the price of car rentals booked between March and May for the August period of both years.
Turkey has been the worst hit by the price increases as the country suffers a massive 76% increase. The USA were second worst as the country puts its prices for car rental up by 48% while Croatia prices went up by 46%.
Gareth Robinson is the Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk and he said the following about the increase in prices for hire cars: “Over the last year, prices have gone up massively and many companies are suffering in the wake of the recession. Fleets have been somewhat depleted meaning that the price of car hire has gone up and this is happening throughout all the major holiday destinations around the world.”
The UK prices only went up by a marginal 8% but the country remains a costly place to rent a car out as it was so expensive last year. France and Spain ranked fourth and fifth in the rankings for steepest price hikes and although Spain witnessed an increase of 40% and France 37%; France is still a more expensive option.
Talking about the best ways to save money when renting a car this year, Gareth went on to offer some advice on how to ensure you don’t pay over the odds: “We looked at the amount that people saved when booking in advance and the difference is huge. Some people saved £150 just by booking in March rather than May for their summer rental and these people also get to choose from a wider choice of cars.”
Greece car rentals are still expensive even though the country is the only place to report a decrease in prices. Madeira proves to show its worth as a popular holiday destination as it boasts the best value for money for car rental options at just over £27 per day.

*All figures are based on average daily rental prices for bookings made between March and May for August 2009 and 2010, respectively. The bookings analysed account for a 30% sample of all bookings made via Carrentals.co.uk during these periods.

Hire Website Carrentals.co.uk Serves Up Hints and Tips for Keeping Rental Costs Lower
Submitted by asap_press on 28.06.2010 09:23:40

Online comparator website recommends more transparency in car hire and offers tips and advice for car hire value
15 June 2010 – With car rental prices rising for the summer season, award-winning car hire price comparator Carrentals.co.uk is handing out tips to help people find the best value on car hire.
Carrentals.co.uk recently surveyed 1,500 people about car hire and discovered that more than a quarter has had to pay unexpected high fees for car hire, and many of them attributed this to a lack of transparency on the part of hire providers.
Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, says: “The poll we carried out shows that there is a need for increased clarity in car hire, with many respondents saying that they felt they paid expensive charges on top of the rental fee. We want everyone to be able to relax when renting a car without worrying about how to keep charges like insurance and fuel surcharges down.”
Carrentals.co.uk has handed out some advice on car hire to help people keep costs down:
• Credit Card Requirement – Always have a credit card with the driver’s name on it to pay for the vehicle hire, that of a passenger in the car will not be sufficient.
• Excess Insurance – Keep an eye out for expensive excess charges on the policy. Buying an excess charge insurance policy in advance from a third party is an excellent way to save money. Keep a copy of your Collision Damage Excess Waiver insurance with you. Carrentals.co.uk offers Collision Damage Excess Waiver policies from Questor Insurance for only £3.99 a day.• Border Charges – Check with your hire company to see whether you have to pay a charge for driving the rental car into another country.
• One Way Rentals – Anybody who wants to hire a car one way should remember that suppliers often charges as much as £300 for this, so check in advance what the costs are before booking your hire car.
• Out of Hours – Some rental companies in smaller destinations will charge the hirer for picking up a car ‘out of hours’. If they have to open their office at unusual hours then they can charge a fee.
• Fuel Policies – These typically vary by the company that hires the car, and there are three types – returning the car with a full tank, paying for that fuel you have used and picking it up with a full tank and taking it back empty. This last policy can be expensive because car hire firms charge up to 40% more than pump prices to refill themselves.
• Child Seats – Simple enough to hire but prices and availability can vary. Can be charged out at up to £60 a week for rental, so if your baggage restrictions allow it, you might want to take one with you from home.
Carrentals.co.uk’s car hire tips and hints form part of its ‘Raising the Standard’ campaign, in which the company calls for more fairness and transparency in the travel sector.
